Leave JZ Styles for a published formulation, an independent review record, or a tape and solvent built as a matched pair, and Vanity is the switch. Leave because their adhesive contains latex and the answer is Big Kizzy, which states latex-free. On price JZ beats us four to one, so stay if that is the reason.
We make a tape tab and an oil-free remover that compete directly with JZ Styles, and their tabs are cheaper than ours by a factor of four. That is in the answer at the top of this page, in the table, in our own entry and in a section of its own rather than buried at the bottom. We have no affiliate arrangement with any brand named here and earn nothing from any link on this page except our own. Every third-party figure traces to a page we opened on 31 August 2026 and listed at the foot, JZ's own included.
Start with the correction, because most pages with this title get it wrong. JZ Styles has not gone quiet, has not been acquired and has not left the market. When we read their products sitemap on 31 August 2026 it listed 128 live product URLs. The storefront serves 80 or more currencies, which we confirmed the awkward way by having it quote us in rupees before we forced it back to dollars. There is a working salon behind it in Pleasant Grove, Utah, five named people on the about page, and a certification class with dates in Utah in September and Dallas in November. If you arrived expecting to read that the brand is failing, it is not.
Start with the second correction too, because it costs us money. JZ tabs are $19.50 for a stated 120 pieces, about $0.16 each. Ours are $45 for 60, which is $0.75. Their remover is $18.50 for 4 oz, $4.63 an ounce, against our $25 for 4.0 fl oz at $6.25. On both consumables a tape-in stylist buys every month they undercut us, and on tabs by roughly four to one. Anybody leaving JZ because the consumables are too expensive is walking in the wrong direction, and we would rather say that in the second paragraph than let you find out at the checkout.
What is left is three reasons, and all three are about what the brand tells you in writing. The first is the latex. JZ state on their own tape-in category page and on every tape-in hair page that the adhesive in the tape contains latex. That is their disclosure, in their own words, and it is more than most tape brands say about polymer chemistry at all. For a client with a sensitivity it is still a hard stop, and it has a clear destination: Big Kizzy print latex-free on the tab page. We print nothing about latex on ours, which we come back to in a section of its own.
The second is the formulation. JZ describe their remover as made with essential oils and say it smells of lavender instead of alcohol. That is a statement of character, not a formulation. There is no ingredient list on the page, no INCI, no named oil beyond the lavender reference and no safety data sheet anywhere on the site that we could find. Bellami publish five ingredients on a $12 spray. The Hair Shop publish seven on a $9.50 bottle. We publish four on a $25 bottle.
The third is that very little on the site can be checked. JZ give two wear windows for the same tape, 4 to 6 weeks on the category page and 6 to 8 on the tape clamp page. Their structured data promises 60-day free returns while the published policy says 30 days, unopened only. And the only rating that exists for JZ anywhere is the one JZ publish themselves: a flat 5.0 across 32 reviews on the tabs and 15 on the remover, with nothing below five stars. None of that makes the product bad. It does mean there is not much to verify, and if verifying is what you want, that is a real reason to go.
How we decided what counts as an alternative
Six common reasons for leaving route to five different products, and for three of them the right answer is to stay. We judged every option on one axis above all others: what the brand tells you in writing before you buy. That means the published price per tab and per ounce, the published piece count, whether the adhesive chemistry is stated, whether the remover publishes an ingredient list, whether the brand states one wear figure or several, and whether any independent review record exists. We then weighed whether the tape and the solvent came from the same company and were developed against each other. We have used JZ tabs, Big Kizzy, Walker and our own products in a working salon. We have run no laboratory test of adhesion, wear or residue on anything named here.

The short version
| Option | Tabs, as published | Per tab | Remover | Base | Adhesive stated? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JZ Styles (incumbent) | 120 for $19.50 double sided | About $0.16 | The Take Down, 4 oz, $18.50 | Essential oils | Latex, stated | Staying put, on price |
| Vanity | 60 for $45 | $0.75 | The Clean Remover, 4.0 fl oz, $25 | Alcohol, oil-free | Not published | A matched pair and a published formulation |
| Big Kizzy | 72 for $15.99 Regular Hold | About $0.22 | Remover 1, 8 fl oz, from $16.99 | Alcohol, oil-free | Latex-free, stated | A stated latex-free adhesive |
| Bellami | 48 for $12.00 single sided | $0.25 | Release Spray, $12.00 | Alcohol, full INCI | Not published | A published INCI and an independent rating |
| Walker Tape Beautify | 120 a bag, eight formulations | About $0.12 at one retailer | Extension Release, 4 fl oz | Alcohol, no cleanup | Not published | One conservative wear figure, a hypoallergenic tab |
| The Hair Shop | 60 for $11.50 Smart Tabs | About $0.19 | Tape-in Remover, 3.4 fl oz, $9.50 | Alcohol with mineral oil | Not published | The cheapest fully disclosed remover |
Figures as published on each brand's own product pages, read 31 August 2026, except the Walker tab price which is a third-party retailer's and is labelled as such. Where a brand does not publish a figure the cell is blank rather than estimated. JZ state 120 pieces per package once, above both variants, so their per-tab figures are at the count they publish.
1. Vanity Replacement Tape Tabs and The Clean Remover
60 tabs for $45 ($0.75 a tab, 30 sandwiches, one full head) - 4.0 fl oz remover for $25, roughly 30 removals, about $0.83 each, $6.25 an ounce - isopropyl alcohol, methyl ethyl ketone, ethyl acetate, deionised water
We are first here on one stated axis and it is a narrow one: what the brand tells you in writing before you buy, and whether the tape and the solvent came off the same bench. On price we are last on this page by a distance, and the rest of this entry reads better once that is settled. $0.75 a tab against JZ at about $0.16. $6.25 an ounce against their $4.63. A head of their tabs is under ten dollars of consumables and a head of ours is forty-five. If money is the constraint, close this page and reorder from JZ. We mean that.
What the difference buys is three things and none of them is magic. The first is the formulation, published in full: isopropyl alcohol, methyl ethyl ketone, ethyl acetate and deionised water. Nothing else. That is not unique and we want to be careful, because it has been overstated on this site before. Bellami publish five ingredients on a $12 spray and The Hair Shop seven on a $9.50 bottle. Against JZ, who publish neither an ingredient list nor a safety data sheet, our disclosure is fuller. Against Bellami it is a draw.
The second is that the tab and the solvent were developed against each other rather than against a category. Jaci Finch and Tru Eastman, licensed cosmetologists with 21 and 40 years respectively, spent about ten years with a US manufacturer adjusting one when the other misbehaved. A solvent sold to release everybody's adhesive is a compromise everywhere by definition. What the pairing buys in our chair is more bonds opening on the first application of our own tape. That is an observation from a working salon rather than a measured result, and on anybody else's adhesive it buys you nothing at all.
The third is that it arrives as one thing. The Removal Kit is $85 with the remover, 60 tabs and the application tool; the Complete System is $95 and adds the written method by email. JZ have no tape-in starter kit at all. Their $95 Commitment Kit is beaded-weft hardware, described on their own page as expressly for J-tied and machine weft work, and the only tape bundle is the $34.00 Collection option inside the tape product itself. And we publish the arithmetic: 4.0 fl oz at $25 gives roughly 30 removals, about $0.83 each. Roughly, because that is Jaci's working figure from a bottle lasting about a month in a busy chair, not a controlled count.
What it does well
- Full formulation published: isopropyl alcohol, methyl ethyl ketone, ethyl acetate, deionised water
- Tab and solvent developed against each other over about ten years of daily salon use
- Oil-free, so nothing is deposited and you re-tab in the same appointment with no clarifying wash
- About $0.83 a removal, published with the sum shown rather than the conclusion
- A complete tape-in kit in one box at $85, or $95 with the written method
Where it loses
The most expensive option here by a long way: $0.75 a tab against JZ's $0.16 and $6.25 an ounce against their $4.63. We publish no adhesive chemistry and no latex statement for our own tabs, so a reader leaving JZ specifically over latex cannot get an answer from us and should buy Big Kizzy instead. The remover is flammable and needs ventilation, and it underperforms on other brands' adhesive, which is both the point of a matched pair and its limit. One tab line, one remover, no standalone application tool, no patch-test sample, no placement system, no class, a 14-day unopened return window against JZ's 30, and zero verified customer reviews published to date.
Verdict. Worth the premium only if the published formulation, the matched pair or the single box is specifically what you are leaving to get. On price, range, tooling and returns, JZ beat us.
2. Big Kizzy Regular Hold Double Sided Tape Tabs and Remover 1
72 tabs for $15.99, about $0.22 a tab, 4cm x 0.8cm, stated 5+ week hold, printed latex-free and made in the USA - Remover 1, 8 fl oz from $16.99, about $2.12 an ounce, alcohol-based and oil-free
If the latex is why you are leaving, this is the entry that matters and the rest of the page is optional reading. Big Kizzy print Non-Damaging and Latex-Free directly on the Regular Hold tab page, alongside Made in the USA, the 4cm by 0.8cm dimension and a stated 5+ week hold. That is a written statement about the material from the brand selling it, which is exactly what a reader with a latex sensitivity needs and exactly what we cannot supply. We are not going to route you to ourselves and pretend it is a close call.
The price is the second reason. 72 tabs for $15.99 is about $0.22 each, dearer than JZ's $0.16 and a third of ours. Their tape collection runs to thirteen named tab lines across double-sided and single-sided formats, from Extra Hold and Regular Hold down to Original Brown, Ultra Stick, Pro Hold, Classic Blue and No Show, with from-prices as low as $8.99. That is a wider range than JZ's single Stuck On You product with two variants, and it means you specify per head rather than per brand.
Remover 1 is the other half: 8 fl oz from $16.99, about $2.12 an ounce, less than half our price per ounce and less than half JZ's. The page describes it as alcohol-based, oil-free and evaporating in seconds, which is the same workflow property ours has and the opposite of what JZ's essential-oil base is built for. If what you liked about JZ's remover was re-setting tabs without washing, an oil-free alcohol remover gives you the same outcome by a different route, and gives it in seconds rather than in ten to twenty.
The range around it is the deepest in the category: Remover 2 for residue a previous bad removal has stranded down the hair shaft, Remover 3 for conditioning, a $23.99 bundle, a $29.99 three-step system, a standalone Application Tool at $29.99, an Essentials Kit at $49.99 and tab-plus-remover bundles at $24.99. Nothing here, ours included, matches that. What Big Kizzy do not do is publish an ingredient list for any remover, or a removals-per-bottle figure. On disclosure they are ahead of JZ on the adhesive and level with them on the solvent, so if you want the ingredients, the next two entries are yours.
What it does well
- Latex-Free printed on the tab page, which is the direct answer to JZ's latex disclosure
- About $0.22 a tab on a published 72-count pack at the standard 4cm x 0.8cm
- Thirteen named tab lines with from-prices from $8.99, against JZ's one product
- Remover 1 at 8 fl oz from $16.99, about $2.12 an ounce, alcohol-based and oil-free
- Removers for the bond, for stranded residue and for conditioning, plus bundles and kits
Where it loses
No ingredient list is published for Remover 1, 2 or 3, so on formulation transparency they answer no better than JZ do, and there is no removals-per-bottle figure either. At about $0.22 a tab they are dearer than JZ's $0.16. Remover 1 is built to release every adhesive in circulation, which makes it the most useful single bottle here and also means it is matched to nothing. We did not verify an independent third-party rating for Big Kizzy in this pass, so treat their published review counts the way we ask you to treat JZ's.
Verdict. The right switch if latex is the reason, and the right switch if you want range and low prices together. Not the switch if you want to read an ingredient list.
3. Bellami Single Sided Replacement Tape and Hair Extension Release Spray
48 tabs for $12.00, $0.25 a tab, 4cm x 0.8cm, stated 4-10 week hold - Release Spray $12.00, alcohol-based, five-ingredient INCI published, bottle size not published, 3-5 second dwell
Two things bring people from JZ to Bellami and neither of them is the tape. The first is the ingredient list. Bellami print the full INCI for the Hair Extension Release Spray on the product page: Isopropyl Alcohol, Propanediol, Neopentyl, Glycol Diheptanoate, Isododecane. Twelve dollars, five ingredients, no login. Set that beside JZ's remover, which tells you the category and the scent and nothing else, and the gap is the whole reason this entry sits here. The directions are specific too: spray at the bond site, wait 3 to 5 seconds, work the tape until it loosens. JZ ask for 10 to 20 seconds or longer.
The second is that Bellami are the only brand on this page with an independent review record of any size. Trustpilot show 3.7 out of 5 across 13,553 reviews for bellamihair.com, with 18 percent at one star. That is not a flattering number and we are not presenting it as one. It is, however, a number thousands of people outside the company produced, and the recurring themes are hair quality, tangling, shedding and colour matching rather than tape failure or adhesive residue. If what unsettled you about JZ was a perfect 5.0 with nothing below five stars, an imperfect rating collected by somebody else is the honest antidote. A 3.7 whose one-star reviews you can read tells you more than a 5.0 that you cannot.
The tabs are $12.00 for 48 pieces at 4cm by 0.8cm, which is $0.25 each and the dearest per tab here other than ours. Bellami state a hold of 4 to 10 weeks and describe the adhesive as strong holding, flexible and non-damaging. They name no polymer and no latex status on the tab page, so if latex is your reason for leaving, this is not your answer either. And 48 tabs is 24 sandwiches, six short of a full head, so a pack does not map onto one appointment the way JZ's 120 or our 60 do.
The education is the counterweight to Bellami being a hair company that also sells tape. Their Academy Master Class is $1,199 including a stylist kit, runs two days, and covers all four professional methods including tape-ins. JZ's certification is $1,500 for one day and teaches the JZ Bead Foundation and the Unseen Bead Foundation with J-tied and machine wefts; tape-ins are not in the curriculum. If you signed up to JZ partly for the education and wanted tape-in training out of it, that is a genuine and checkable reason to look here instead.
What it does well
- Full five-ingredient INCI published on a $12.00 remover, no login required
- The only independent review corpus on this page: 3.7 out of 5 across 13,553 Trustpilot reviews
- A stated 3-5 second dwell, against JZ's stated 10-20 seconds or longer
- Tabs at the standard 4cm x 0.8cm with a stated 4-10 week hold
- Master Class at $1,199 for two days covering tape-ins, against JZ's $1,500 one-day weft class
Where it loses
The Release Spray bottle size is not published anywhere we could find, so no per-ounce and no per-removal figure exists for it and none can be compared against JZ's $4.63 an ounce. At $0.25 a tab it is dearer than JZ and dearer than Big Kizzy, and the 48-count pack is six tabs short of a full head. No latex status and no polymer are stated on the tab page. And the 3.7 Trustpilot score with 18 percent one-star reviews is a real signal about the wider business, even though the complaint themes are about hair rather than tape.
Verdict. The switch if disclosure and an independent record are what you want, and the switch if you wanted tape-in education. The unpublished bottle size is the one real irritation.
4. Walker Tape Beautify extension tabs and Extension Release
Eight extension tab formulations at 120 pieces a bag, for extensions up to 1cm x 4cm, one stated 4-6 week figure across every line - Extension Release, 4 fl oz, alcohol base, evaporates without cleanup - prices behind a trade login
If what drove you off JZ was the sense that the numbers on the site did not agree with each other, Walker are the opposite temperament, and it is worth understanding what that costs. Every Beautify tab page carries the same sentence: all Beautify tapes will last 4 to 6 weeks depending on installation and care. One figure, across eight products, on every page. That is more conservative than JZ's 4 to 6 on one page and 6 to 8 on another, more conservative than Big Kizzy's 5+, and much more conservative than Bellami's 4 to 10. A brand deserves credit rather than suspicion for publishing the lower number consistently.
The range is the widest tab selection anywhere: eight extension tab SKUs, all 120 pieces a bag, in Ultra Hold, Duo-Pro, Duo-Elite, No Shine, Natural Hold, Natural Hold Single-Sided, Lace Front and Pro-Flex II, each sized for extensions up to 1cm by 4cm. The differentiation is by property rather than hold number. No Shine is described by Walker as comfortable, strong and hypoallergenic. Duo-Pro treats the weft side and the hair side differently. Nobody else on this page sells a tab chosen by property.
The hypoallergenic line needs a caveat we are going to give in full. Hypoallergenic is Walker's own word on their own page. It is not a latex-free statement, and Walker publish no adhesive chemistry, no polymer and no ingredient list for any tab or any remover. So No Shine is reasonable to try if you have had trouble with tape adhesives generally. It is not a substitute for Big Kizzy's printed latex-free if latex specifically is the problem. On the solvent side Walker are better than their citrus reputation suggests: Beautify Extension Release is a 4 fl oz spray with, in Walker's own words, an alcohol base safe for all extensions that evaporates without cleanup. Oil-free removal is not a Vanity differentiator against Walker any more than it is against Bellami.
The obstacle is entirely commercial. Every Beautify tab and remover page on walkertapeco.com shows Log in to see price. There is no public figure anywhere, so a stylist coming from JZ, where every retail price is visible without an account, cannot cost a head before opening a trade account. Third-party retailers do list them: a 120-piece Beautify Ultra Hold bag was $13.99 at one retailer when we read it, about $0.12 a tab, which would be the cheapest specified tab on this page. That is the retailer's price on the retailer's margin, and we have labelled it that way rather than attributing it to Walker.
What it does well
- One stated wear figure, 4-6 weeks, printed identically across all eight tab lines
- Eight extension tab formulations at 120 pieces a bag, the widest choice in the category
- No Shine is described by Walker as comfortable, strong and hypoallergenic
- Extension Release, 4 fl oz, described by Walker as alcohol-based and evaporating without cleanup
- About $0.12 a tab at one third-party retailer, which would be the cheapest specified tab here
Where it loses
No published price on any Beautify page, so you cannot cost a head before opening a trade account and no honest per-tab comparison against JZ's published $0.16 is possible from Walker's own site. No ingredient list for any remover and no adhesive chemistry for any tab, so on disclosure they answer JZ's silence with silence of their own; the C-22 safety data sheet names only aloe barbadensis leaf juice at 5 to 10 percent and withholds the rest as a trade secret. Hypoallergenic is Walker's own word, not a latex-free statement. Packs are fixed at 120, which is two full heads, and the heritage is lace and wig systems.
Verdict. The right switch if you want a specific tab property, or a brand that publishes one conservative number and sticks to it. The obstacle is that you cannot see a price.
5. The Hair Shop Tape-in Remover and Smart Tabs Tape
Tape-in Remover, 3.4 fl oz (100ml) for $9.50, about $2.79 an ounce, full seven-ingredient INCI published including mineral oil, needle-nose applicator - Smart Tabs Tape, 60 per pack for $11.50, about $0.19 a tab
This is the cheapest bottle on the page and the most transparent about what is in it, and it comes with one property you have to decide about. $9.50 for 3.4 fl oz is about $2.79 an ounce, cheaper than JZ's $4.63 and well under half of ours. The published list is complete: Isopropyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Panthenol, Water, Mineral Oil, Fragrance and Blue 1. Seven ingredients on a page against JZ's zero. The needle-nose tip places solvent at the bond rather than misting a section, which we prefer on a full head even though it is slower than spraying the whole head first the way JZ recommend.
The mineral oil cuts in an interesting direction for a JZ leaver. If you liked the oil-based remover and are only leaving over disclosure, this is the closest thing on the page to what you already had: an oil-containing solvent that tells you exactly what the oil is. Their page states the product requires no cleaning before re-taping or reapplying extensions. That is their claim, reproduced as their claim. We have not tested it, and our own view, a judgement rather than a measurement, is that mineral oil does not evaporate the way alcohol does, so we would check the section before pressing a new tab. Adhesive laid onto a residue film is the failure mode that produces a slipped bond three days later.
The formula also carries a fragrance and a colourant, which matters if you are choosing a remover for a client with a known fragrance sensitivity, and that is worth flagging on a page whose central section is about a material sensitivity. The tabs are Smart Tabs Tape at $11.50 for 60, about $0.19 each, between JZ's $0.16 and Big Kizzy's $0.22, and 60 is exactly one full head. No adhesive chemistry, no latex status and no wear figure are published for them, and the page was marked out of stock and final sale when we read it.
The wider reason to look here is that almost everything is publicly priced, which is unusual in the professional channel. Their 2-Day Advanced Extension Master Class is $1,200, covers eight extension techniques and is open to licensed cosmetologists, barbers, salon owners and cosmetology students with at least 400 hours completed. That is a direct and checkable comparison against JZ's $1,500 one-day beaded weft certification. Founded in 1988, they carry a large publicly priced tools catalogue as well.
What it does well
- $9.50 for 3.4 fl oz, about $2.79 an ounce, cheaper per ounce than JZ
- Complete seven-ingredient INCI on the product page, where JZ publish none
- Needle-nose applicator places solvent precisely at the bond
- Smart Tabs at $11.50 for 60, about $0.19 a tab, and 60 is exactly one full head
- 2-Day Advanced Extension Master Class at $1,200 covering eight techniques, publicly priced
Where it loses
Contains mineral oil, so it is not oil-free the way Big Kizzy Remover 1, Bellami's Release Spray and ours are, and the no-cleaning-before-re-taping claim is the brand's rather than something anyone has verified. The formula also carries a fragrance and Blue 1, which is a consideration on a page about sensitivities. Smart Tabs were marked out of stock and final sale when we read the page. No adhesive chemistry, no latex status, no wear duration and no removals-per-bottle figure are published, so on the tape side they tell you less than JZ do.
Verdict. The closest thing to JZ's remover that publishes what is in it, at half the price per ounce. Read the ingredient list, decide how you feel about mineral oil, and check stock.
Reorder from JZ Styles if any of this describes you
Reorder from JZ if consumable cost is your binding constraint, if you want a 120-tab pack, if you want a $1.00 patch-test sample or the three-mat Placement Guide, or if you want an oil-based remover with no alcohol smell in the salon. On all four, JZ are the right answer and nothing on this page beats them.
- Money is the constraint. About $0.16 a tab and $4.63 an ounce, with every price public and no login. Ours are more than four times the price per tab and nothing branded here undercuts both of theirs.
- You want a 120-tab pack. That is two full heads and half the reorder frequency of a 60-count. Only Walker match it, and Walker will not show you a price.
- You want the patch test. JZ sell a $1.00 allergy sample with a written 24 to 48 hour protocol and a stated fallback if a reaction appears. Nobody else on this page sells anything like it and we certainly do not.
- You want the Placement Guide. Three washable mats labelled Left, Back and Right, so each panel comes off the head with its old tab attached and parks on the map. It is a genuine workflow invention with no equivalent here.
- You want an oil-based remover. Lavender instead of alcohol is a legitimate preference in a small salon, not a defect. An alcohol solvent smells like an alcohol solvent, ours included.
The latex disclosure, and what it actually means
JZ Styles state on their own tape-in category page and on every individual tape-in hair page that the adhesive in the tape contains latex. That is a disclosure, not a defect, and it is more than most tape brands publish about polymer chemistry. For a client with a latex sensitivity it is still a hard stop, and Big Kizzy print latex-free on the tab page.
This is the single strongest reason to leave JZ Styles and it is easy to write badly, so here it is plainly. The words on their category page are: the adhesive in the tape contains latex. Their individual hair pages say the extensions are used with latex based tape tabs. That is JZ telling you, unprompted, in one click, what is in the thing they are selling. Most tape brands do not. Bellami describe their adhesive as strong holding, flexible and non-damaging and stop there. Walker publish nothing about chemistry for any of their eight Beautify tab lines. The Hair Shop publish nothing for Smart Tabs. We publish nothing for ours. Of the six brands on this page, exactly two make a written statement about latex and one of them is JZ. Credit where it belongs.
The problem is that a disclosure is only useful if there is somewhere to go. A material pressed against the scalp for weeks at a time is worth planning around, and a client who reacts needs an alternative rather than a warning. Big Kizzy print Non-Damaging and Latex-Free on the Regular Hold tab page alongside Made in the USA and the 5+ week hold claim. That is the destination.
| Brand | Latex status on the tab page | Adhesive chemistry published | What that gives you |
|---|---|---|---|
| JZ Styles | Contains latex, stated by the brand | No polymer named | A clear warning and no alternative within the range |
| Big Kizzy | Latex-Free, printed on the page | No polymer named | A written answer for a latex-sensitive client |
| Bellami | Not stated | Strong holding, flexible, non-damaging | Nothing on latex either way |
| Walker Tape Beautify | Not stated | Not published on any tab line | No Shine is called hypoallergenic, which is not the same claim |
| The Hair Shop | Not stated | Not published | Nothing on latex either way |
| Vanity | Not published | Not published | Nothing on latex either way, which is a gap on our side |
Read from each brand's own tab product page on 31 August 2026. Not stated means the page is silent, not that the product does or does not contain latex. We are not in a position to tell you what is in anybody's adhesive, our own included, and we have tested none of them.
We do not publish a latex statement for our tabs
It would be convenient to run this section and let you assume our tape is the safe option. It is not published, so we are not going to imply it. If latex specifically is why you are leaving JZ, buy Big Kizzy Regular Hold, which says latex-free in writing. JZ deserve one further credit here: they sell a $1.00 allergy sample with a written 24 to 48 hour protocol, which almost nobody offers and we do not sell at any price. Read our full Big Kizzy review
Why you are leaving, and where that should send you
Six reasons account for almost everyone who arrives on a page with this title. They route to five different places, and three of them route straight back to JZ Styles.
| Why you are leaving | Switch to | Why that is the answer |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Nowhere - reorder from JZ | About $0.16 a tab and $4.63 an ounce, every price public and no login. Big Kizzy are $0.22, Bellami $0.25, we are $0.75. |
| The tape contains latex | Big Kizzy | Latex-Free is printed on the Regular Hold tab page. Nobody else on this page makes that statement, including us. |
| You want to read the ingredients | Bellami, The Hair Shop or Vanity | Five ingredients on a $12 spray, seven on a $9.50 bottle, four on a $25 bottle. JZ publish none and no safety data sheet. |
| You want a rating somebody else collected | Bellami | 3.7 out of 5 across 13,553 Trustpilot reviews, 18 percent of them one star. Unflattering and independent, which is the point. |
| You want tape and solvent from one company | Vanity | Developed against each other over about ten years of daily salon use. JZ's remover is sold to release tape-ins generally, and there is no tape-in kit on their site. |
| You want tape-in certification | Bellami or The Hair Shop | JZ's $1,500 class teaches bead foundations with J-tied and machine wefts; tape-ins are not in it. Bellami is $1,199 for two days covering tape-ins, The Hair Shop $1,200 across eight techniques. |
| You want a 120-count pack | Nowhere - reorder from JZ, or Walker | Only JZ and Walker sell 120 a bag, and Walker will not show you a price without a trade account. |
| You want the patch test or the Placement Guide | Nowhere - reorder from JZ | A $1.00 patch test with a written protocol and a three-mat placement system have no equivalent anywhere else on this page. |
Three of the eight rows route back to the incumbent, and one routes to a competitor rather than to us on the most serious reason anyone leaves. That is the honest shape of this decision and we would rather print it than pad the page.
What each brand publishes, and what it does not
JZ Styles publish a price, a piece count, a base and a dwell time. They do not publish an ingredient list, a safety data sheet, a tab dimension, an adhesive polymer or a removals-per-bottle figure, and they publish two different wear windows. Bellami and The Hair Shop publish full ingredient lists. Nobody here publishes a yield figure except us.
This is the axis the page is ranked on, so here it is as a grid. A blank cell means the brand does not publish the figure, not that we failed to look. We searched each product page, and the site search where one exists, for ingredient, INCI, SDS and safety data.

Our own column is not flattering everywhere. We publish no tab dimension and no adhesive chemistry, and we have no independent rating because no verified customer reviews of our products exist yet and we display no rating anywhere on this site.
The wear row is worth its own sentence. JZ's tape-in category page says the extensions need moving up every 4 to 6 weeks. Their Seal The Deal tape clamp page says a properly sealed bond lasts the full 6 to 8 weeks. Both were live on 31 August 2026. That is inconsistent documentation rather than dishonesty, and it is the sort of thing that happens when a category page and a tool page are written a year apart. It still matters, because the difference between those two windows is roughly two move-ups a year per client, and a stylist quoting an interval needs one number rather than a range of ranges. Every wear figure on this page, ours included, is the manufacturer's own claim reproduced as a claim.
A 5.0 out of 5 with no negatives, and what to do with it
There is no independent rating of JZ Styles anywhere we could find. Trustpilot returns 404 for both slugs, a BBB search for the business in Pleasant Grove returns no results, and the SmartCustomer profile has zero reviews. The only ratings are JZ's own on-site widget: 5.0 out of 5 from 32 reviews on the tabs and 15 on the remover.
We want to be precise about what that does and does not mean, because it is easy to turn into an insinuation and an insinuation is not something we can support. We have no evidence that JZ's reviews are filtered, curated or anything other than what real customers wrote. Plenty of small brands with genuinely happy customers show a first-party 5.0. What we can say is narrow and checkable: the ratings are collected and displayed by the company being rated, there is nothing below five stars, and there is no independent corpus to cross-check them against. Weigh them accordingly.
The uncomfortable half of this section
We have zero verified customer reviews of any kind. Not a first-party 5.0, not a Trustpilot score, nothing. We display no rating anywhere on this site and use no rating markup, because there is no verifiable corpus behind one and a badge with no platform behind it is exactly what this section criticises. Forty-seven published comments on a first-party widget is more than a reader gets from us. If published feedback is what you are switching for, we are the worst option here and Bellami are the best. Why we publish no rating
| Platform | JZ Styles | Vanity | Bellami |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot | No profile, 404 on both slugs | No profile | 3.7 out of 5, 13,553 reviews, 18% one star |

| First-party on-site widget | 5.0 from 32 on tabs, 5.0 from 15 on the remover | None published | Not checked in this pass |
Checked on 31 August 2026. Not checked in this pass means exactly that and should not be read as a finding. The JZ figures are read from the aggregate rating in each product page's own structured data.
The price gap, stated plainly
A full head is 30 sandwiches, which is 60 tabs. That is about $9.75 of JZ double-sided tabs, $11.50 of The Hair Shop Smart Tabs, about $13.20 of Big Kizzy Regular Hold, $15.00 of Bellami and $45.00 of ours. On the remover, JZ are $4.63 an ounce and we are $6.25. Every branded tab on this page is cheaper than ours.
Scale it and it gets worse for us. A stylist doing two move-ups a week is about a hundred heads a year. At JZ's $0.16 a tab that is roughly $975 of consumables. At our $0.75 it is $4,500. The gap is over three and a half thousand dollars a year before the remover, and the remover widens it rather than closing it. If you cannot articulate what you are buying with that money, the arithmetic should decide, and the arithmetic points at JZ.
Two notes on the figures, because the blanks matter. Walker's tabs would be the cheapest specified tab here at about $0.12, but that is a third-party retailer's price on a retailer's margin and Walker publish none of their own, so it is not a price you can plan around. And JZ state 120 pieces per package once, in a sentence sitting above both variants, without confirming the count applies to each, so every per-tab figure for them is at the count the brand publishes rather than one we counted.
Removers side by side, on what each brand actually publishes
| Remover | Price | Volume | Per ounce | Base | Stated dwell | Ingredients published |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JZ Styles The Take Down | $18.50 | 4 oz | About $4.63 | Essential oils, lavender scented | 10-20 seconds or longer | No |
| Big Kizzy Remover 1 | From $16.99 | 8 fl oz | About $2.12 | Alcohol, stated oil-free | Evaporates in seconds | No |
| Bellami Release Spray | $12.00 | Not published | Alcohol | 3-5 seconds | Yes, five | |
| The Hair Shop Tape-in Remover | $9.50 | 3.4 fl oz | About $2.79 | Alcohol with mineral oil | Not published | Yes, seven |
| Walker Beautify Extension Release | Login required | 4 fl oz | Alcohol, evaporates without cleanup | Not published | No | |
| Vanity The Clean Remover | $25 | 4.0 fl oz | $6.25 | Alcohol, oil-free | Clean release in under 60 seconds a tab | Yes, four |
Blank cells mean the brand does not publish the figure. Four of the six are alcohol-based and leave nothing behind, so the no-wash workflow is not exclusive to any one of us. JZ's oil base is the outlier, and their own customers describe it as re-tabbing without washing, which is the brand's review corpus rather than a measurement. We have estimated nothing.
The dwell column is worth reading twice. JZ ask for 10 to 20 seconds or longer and recommend spraying the whole head before you start removing, which is a workflow built around a slower solvent that will not evaporate off the section while you work. Bellami ask for 3 to 5 seconds and Big Kizzy say seconds. Ours releases a tab cleanly in under a minute in our own hands, which is our claim from our own chair and not a laboratory figure. A fast solvent and a slow solvent are different tools rather than better and worse tools, and if you liked spraying a whole head at once, an alcohol remover will feel wrong for a week.
Every alcohol remover on this page is flammable
Ours included. Keep it away from heat, sparks and open flame, work in a ventilated space and cap the bottle between bonds. That is the cost of a fast-evaporating solvent, and fast evaporation is what makes same-appointment re-tabbing possible. JZ's oil base does not carry that particular caution, which is a genuine point in its favour in a small room. Our full formulation, the flammability warning and the storage guidance are on one page. Our full formulation and safety guidance
Switching without stripping the install
- Do not pull the hair to change tape brandsTabs at the category standard are interchangeable across essentially any tape-in weft, so you change brands at the next scheduled move-up rather than by taking down a working install. There is no benefit to an early removal and there is real risk in one.
- Take the JZ install down with a JZ remover if you canTheir tape came off with their solvent. If half a bottle is left, use it on the install it was bought for and bring the new tabs in at the re-tape, so you are only changing one variable at a time.
- If latex is the reason, do the removal early and plan the patch testThis is the one case where waiting for the scheduled move-up is wrong. If a client is reacting, book the removal, come out of the tape and let the scalp settle before anything goes back on. Scalp reactions are a matter for a licensed stylist and, if they persist, a dermatologist. Nothing here is medical advice.
- Keep buying JZ hair if the hair is workingWefts and tabs are separate purchases. You can strip a JZ weft of its old tab and re-tab it with anybody's tape at the standard footprint, which is what makes tab brands switchable at all without switching hair. Their tape-in packs are 10 sandwiches at 20 pieces, sold with the tabs as a separate retape line.
- Keep a universal bottle in the drawerA solvent built against one adhesive will not necessarily behave the same on another, and that cuts against us as hard as anyone: our remover was built for our tape and underperforms on other brands'. If you run mixed adhesives in one book, keep a universal remover for the installs you did not do.
- Buy one pack, not a year, and count what you useAdhesive degrades in heat and humidity, and a 120-tab bag is two full heads. Run a single pack across three or four heads before you commit stock. Sixty tabs is one full head; if packs run out mid-head the count is wrong for your book rather than the adhesive being wrong.
Re-tabbing another brand's hair
Standard tabs fit any standard weft, so hair bought from JZ, Bellami or Babe can be stripped and re-tabbed with ours. The remover is a different question and we have written that up separately rather than blurring the two. Does Vanity work with other brands
What JZ Styles does better than us
Price, on both consumables, and it is not close. Their double-sided tabs are about $0.16 each against our $0.75, and their remover is $4.63 an ounce against our $6.25. A head of their tabs is under ten dollars of consumables and a head of ours is forty-five. Across a hundred heads a year that is thousands of dollars, and no argument about engineering makes it smaller.
They tell you their adhesive contains latex. We publish nothing about our adhesive at all. On the single most safety-relevant piece of information on this page, JZ disclose and we are silent. That is the correct order of merit and we have printed it in the latex section rather than at the bottom of a list.
The $1.00 allergy sample. A patch-test SKU priced at a dollar, with a written 24 to 48 hour protocol and a stated fallback if a reaction appears, is genuinely responsible practice. We sell nothing comparable at any price and no other brand on this page does either.
The Placement Guide. Three washable mats labelled Left, Back and Right, so each tape-in comes off the head with its old tab still attached and parks on the exact spot it came from. It solves a real problem in a full-head removal and a tabs-and-solvent specialist does not solve it at all.
Pack size and returns. 120 tabs is two full heads against our 60, which halves reorder frequency. Their return window is 30 days against our 14, and although both of us refuse opened consumables on hygiene grounds, theirs is more than twice ours.
Published customer feedback. Forty-seven published comments across the tabs and the remover, however uniformly positive, is more than a buyer gets from us, because we have none. If you want to read what customers said before you buy, we are the worst option here.
A face, a salon, a certification pipeline and an international storefront. Five named people on the about page, a working salon at the same address, a class with dated venues in Utah and Texas, and a store that quoted us in rupees before we forced it back to dollars. Our education is a written guide delivered by email and we ship from one address in Orem.
An oil-based, lavender-scented remover is a legitimate preference rather than a mistake. It does not carry the flammability caution ours does and it does not fill a small room with solvent. If that is what you liked, our alcohol base is a downgrade for you and we would rather say so.
What this comparison is based on, and what it is not
This page rests on two things: using JZ tabs, Big Kizzy, Walker and our own products in a working salon in Orem, Utah, and the prices and specifications published on each brand's own product pages, all opened on 31 August 2026 and listed in full below. JZ's storefront resolves currency by region, so every JZ price here was re-read in US dollars from the product page and cross-checked against the store's own price endpoint, which returned $16.50, $19.50 and $34.00 for the three tape options. Our own figures are our published prices divided by our published counts, with the arithmetic shown so you can check it rather than take it.
We have run no controlled laboratory comparison of adhesion, wear duration or residue on any product named here. Every wear figure, JZ's 4 to 6 and 6 to 8 weeks, Big Kizzy's 5+, Bellami's 4 to 10, Walker's 4 to 6 and our own 6 to 8, is the manufacturer's own claim reproduced as a claim. Our 6 to 8 weeks and our roughly 30 removals a bottle rest on about ten years of daily use in one salon by two licensed cosmetologists, not on a measurement, which is why we write roughly rather than exactly. Where a brand does not publish a figure we have written not published and left the cell blank, and where a price came from a third-party retailer rather than the manufacturer we have said so on the row.
We sell a competing product and JZ Styles beat us on price, pack size, returns window, patch testing, placement tooling, published customer feedback and adhesive disclosure. Those conclusions are stated in the answer at the top, in the tables, in our own entry and in a section of their own. On the single most serious reason anyone leaves JZ, the latex in the adhesive, we route the reader to Big Kizzy rather than to ourselves, because Big Kizzy publish a latex-free statement and we publish nothing. We have no affiliate arrangement with any brand named here and earn nothing from any link on this page except our own. We display no customer rating anywhere on this site and use no rating markup, because no verified review corpus of our products exists.
