Walker Tape review

Walker Tape makes adhesives and solvents that compete directly with both of our products. We have no affiliate arrangement and earn nothing from anything on this page. This is a review of their range rather than a comparison with ours — we appear once, at the end, in a labelled section. Where Walker does not publish a number we have written that instead of estimating one.

There is a reasonable chance that the tape holding your client's extensions in place came out of a building in West Jordan, Utah, whatever name was printed on the bag.

Walker Tape has been converting adhesive tape for the hair trade since 1985, when Brent Bonham started building custom machinery in his basement because the manual processes the industry used were too slow. It still describes itself as a custom converter that also makes its own glues and solvents, selling into hair replacement, beauty, medical and industrial channels. That heritage explains what the range is unusually good at and where an extension stylist will find it frustrating.

This page reviews the Beautify extension line and the Walker Tape hair-system line behind it, on their own terms. Our own products appear once, near the end, in a section marked as such.

What we judged, and what we could not

Walker is a manufacturer first and a consumer brand second, so we judged it the way a salon meets it: is the extension range coherent on its own terms, is the removal chemistry properly separated by job, can a buyer find out what anything costs, and are the wear claims believable. We have used Walker tape and C-22 in our own salon for years, and have run no laboratory comparison of adhesion, residue or wear against anything here.

The short version

Read on walkertapeco.com, 31 August 2026. Walker shows no prices at all to a logged-out visitor: every product page asks you to log in to see price or purchase the item. The C-22 figures below are third-party retailer prices, not Walker's. Wear durations are Walker's own claims, reproduced rather than tested.

Who Walker Tape is actually for

• Hair replacement studios. This is the home market, and the gallon of C-22 exists for them.
• Salons cutting custom lengths. The 6 yard extension rolls and 36 yard hair-system rolls have no real competitor here.
• Less suited to: a stylist adding tape-ins for the first time, who needs a press, a method and a kit Walker does not sell; and anyone who wants a price before creating an account.

The C-22 safety data sheet, read properly

C-22 comes up constantly in discussions of sensitive scalps, usually with a confident claim about what is in it. We pulled the current safety data sheet from Walker's own server so we could stop guessing. It is version 2, issued 14 April 2025 and revised 19 May 2026, and it is more interesting for what it does not say.

The first thing that follows is that Walker does not disclose what does the solvent work. The only ingredient named is aloe, at 5-10 percent, which is a skin conditioner. Everything that dissolves adhesive is withheld as a trade secret. That is lawful and extremely common, and it means a client who reacts to C-22, and their doctor, cannot find out what they reacted to from the manufacturer's own documentation.

The second concerns d-limonene, the compound most citrus solvents use, which is a recognised contact allergen. DermNet notes that on exposure to air it oxidises into hydroperoxides which are much more potent sensitisers, and reports positive patch tests in around ten percent of people investigated for suspected contact dermatitis. What we cannot tell you is whether C-22 contains it: Walker publishes no ingredient list, the safety data sheet withholds the composition, and the only evidence pointing that way is the citrus odour and the orange colour. We will not assert it on that basis. If your client has a known limonene or fragrance-mix sensitivity, patch test any citrus solvent and ask Walker directly.

Buying notes

• Decide between Beautify and Walker Tape first. Beautify is the extension line with 4-6 week claims; Walker Tape is the hair-system line with 2-4+ week claims. They share names — Ultra Hold, Lace Front, Pro-Flex II — and are not the same products.
• Start with Duo-Pro rather than Ultra Hold. On standard hair the cycle is capped by grow-out, not adhesion, so a stronger tack buys a harder removal and no extra weeks.
• Budget separately for a press. Walker does not make one, and a hand-pressed tab is the most common preventable cause of early slippage.

How it compares with what we make

This section is short and at the end on purpose. Leaving it out would be its own kind of dishonesty; weaving it through the review above would have made the review an advertisement.

We make one double-sided tape tab and one alcohol-based remover. Walker makes seven adhesive lines, four remover chemistries across nine listings, and rolls in eleven size combinations, and has been converting tape since 1985 on machinery it built itself. On range, manufacturing capability and scale there is no argument to have. On lace and wig adhesive we do not compete at all.

Two things run the other way and both are narrow. Our tab and our solvent were developed against each other by the same two cosmetologists over about ten years of daily salon use, where Walker's removers are formulated to work across everything on the market including their own seven lines. That produces a higher first-pass release rate on our own tape and no advantage whatsoever on anyone else's. And we publish our four ingredients — isopropyl alcohol, methyl ethyl ketone, ethyl acetate and deionised water — where Walker publishes a base and a residue rating. Whether either is worth $25 for four ounces against a solvent you can buy for under ten depends entirely on whose tape is on the head.

We have run no laboratory test of adhesion, wear duration, residue or skin response on any product here. Every wear-duration figure is Walker's own claim, reproduced as a claim. The safety data sheet is quoted as published and has not been interpreted beyond what it states — in particular, we have not asserted the presence of any ingredient it withholds.

Walker Tape competes with both of our products and beats us on range, formats, manufacturing scale and, on the evidence we could read, price.
